 Baby Mia

“Hi
Jenni!
First,
I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the hard work you do
to keep this blog going for all of us…I started following in January and
began doing the workouts consistently in February.  I never thought I
would ever be able to shed those last 5 pounds after having my third child 10
years ago.  But, I have done it!  I have definition in places I never
thought possible and I wake up in the middle of the night to check out the wod.
I’m addicted!  No other exerices regimen has done this for me! I
share the workouts with my 13 year old son- it’s helped him build stamina for
wrestling…It’s a great way for us to spend time together.

Anyway-
while doing the Hero workout this am…brutal by the way! I find myself pushing
hard for those fallen…but today I found myself thinking of my second child,
Mia.  She was born on December 4, 2001.  She was full term, but ended
up in the NICU because of a fever.  Doctors said it was no big deal, but 5
days later on December 9, she passed away.  I spent this weekend
participating in a memory walk for all who have lost a baby and helped a friend
honor her child’s first birthday in Heaven. October is Pregnancy and Infant
Loss Awareness
month.  I am sure I’m not the only Mama on this blog who
has lost a baby. Just a thought of doing a WOD for those babies
who fought hard to be with us here on Earth and were taken way too soon.
Thanks
again for all you do- you are a blessing!!”

Julie/F/37/3kids/St. Louis, MO

This WOD is in honor of all Mamas who have lost a baby and for all the babies who had to leave this earth too soon. I know you will all be reunited with them someday.
(Sorry I didn’t get this out in October but it is an important message for any month.)

  1. 24:50 12# ball
Box jumps were step down, not jump (Achilles is bothering me a little)

Julie-thank you for sharing your story and remembering our little ones God needed. Our brother passed away after only 7 days with our parents.

  2. 18:44-
    subbed thrusters for wb

Mia amazes me still after almost 12 years! Last week my back was so sore that I could only do step ups on box jumps- today I did them all! I pushed hard through this wod. She taught me about strength- and what that means in all areas of my life. Thanks Jenni for sharing and thanks Mamas for inspiring me each day!

  3. 18:51. Had to sub squats for box jumps since I have a cast on my left foot.

Thanks for sharing your story Julie and for providing some much needed inspiration this cold Monday morning.

  5. 19:27 with stair step as box. Thanks, Julie for sharing. Even this many years later, I'm still so sorry this happened to you. It's a nightmare no parent ever wants to live.

  6. Julie, thank you so much for sharing. Your story brought tears to my eyes. I haven't lost a child, but I have a few friends who have and they were on my mind this morning while I did the wod.

That said, because of my own babies, I didn't get to finish today: did the first two rounds, then my toddler had a major nasty diaper and my baby woke from nap!

And Becca, doing the wod with a cast on your foot…I'm impressed!

Thanks for sharing your story Julie… i would imagine that losing a child only makes you a heck of a lot stronger of a mama!!

  8. 21:09 thrusters with 5lbs weights instead of wall ball, jumped my bottom step with stepping down, and 15lbs kettle bell. I know my time would have been a lot slower if I could of did it as posted. I have lower back problems so this was a lot for me today. Thank you for the workout! Today was only my 27th work out from here and I haven't missed one yet. I may have to modify it but I do them. Thanks again!

20# thrusters and kettle bell swings. 14 in. Box jumps but used my girls toy chest so thought it wouldn't be a good idea to jump so I did step up and down, half I did as fast as I could. Good way to start the day and week!

  14. 22:06

First round was 20# thrusters and KB swings, after that had to switch to 16#. 8" box jumps.

  23. 18:35 – step up, jump down for box jumps. All else as rx'd.

Thanks for sharing, Julie! I was really struggling with working out today, then read your story. That gave me the much needed motivation, and I did this workout for the miscarriages that I have had over the past 6 years.

  24. God Bless you. I thought about our own baby who is in heaven. Thanks for the motivation and the sweat.
30:17 sub 20# Squat thrusters for wall ball, used three stairs (8"), and 30 db swings.

  26. 28:55. My thoughts are of my sister who lost twin boys during this work out, and all of you that have also lost children. My heart felt sympathies.

  27. Heroes come in many forms for all of us and as Mamas there is no greater love than that we have for our kids. They inspire us in so many ways! Unfortunately there are some if you that know this pain of loosing a child. I'm so glad i could share Mia with you today…. Thank you!!

On a side note- my 13 y/o did the workout in 11:48. Since doing the workouts on this blog he's shaved 40 secs off his mile- running a 6:42 at school last week and completed 22 pull ups for his fitness test at school
